Energy Efficiency Quick Scan & ROI Checklist

This quick scan helps you spot common high-impact energy savings in restaurants and hospitality facilities without complex metering. For each area, capture a short assessment, estimated retrofit cost, and expected annual savings. Use the simple payback rule (retrofit cost ÷ annual dollar savings) to prioritize projects that pay back fastest. The form saves your observations so teams can compare locations, build a small-project pipeline, and share vendor notes.

Tip: When possible, confirm estimates with utility rates, vendor quotes, or brief metering before committing to large retrofits.

Enter the restaurant, café, or facility name and address.
Who performed the quick scan (name and role).
Enter date (YYYY-MM-DD).
Quick checklist for lighting opportunities: LED retrofit, occupancy sensors in back-of-house/restrooms, dimming, task lighting, daylighting controls. Use the following fields to capture cost and savings.
Answer Yes if fixtures are old, large incandescent/fluorescent, or there are no controls.
Contractor or rough budget cost for fixtures, labor, and controls.
Estimate annual energy and maintenance savings. (If you have kWh estimate, convert using your utility rate.)
Check door seals, gasket condition, condensation, hot spots, high run-times, and off-cycle defrost. Consider strip curtains, night covers for open cases, and controller upgrades.
Select the best match.
Include gasket replacement, controller, case night covers, or condenser cleaning service costs.
Estimate energy savings and reduced spoilage or maintenance savings.
Look for programmable thermostat availability, economizer function, dirty coils, filter condition, and zoning issues. Consider controls tuning, filter program, and VFDs on large fans.
Check items that apply.
Controls tuning, thermostat upgrades, small equipment replacement, or service contract estimates.
Estimate energy savings and comfort-related benefits.
Check older fryers, steamers, ovens, and holding cabinets. Consider high-efficiency equipment, controls, cookline zoning, and preventive maintenance.
Check all that apply.
Cost for equipment replacement, controls, or layout changes.
Estimate energy, water, and maintenance savings.
Small behavior and schedule changes yield outsized savings: staff training, kitchen shutdown checklists, setpoints, night setbacks, and scheduling equipment use.
Check items that apply.
Training, checklists, small controls or timers. Often low-cost with fast payback.
Estimate energy and operational savings.
Sum of the retrofit cost fields above (enter manually or from your calculations).
Sum of the annual savings fields above (enter manually).
Compute as Total retrofit cost ÷ Total annual savings. Enter value here or leave blank if unknown.

Select the procurement option you expect to use.
Record vendor names, quotes, warranty terms, scheduling constraints, or lessons from past projects.
Capture the recommended pilot projects, who should own them, and a suggested timeline. Examples: LED retrofit pilot, gasket replacement for 2 cases, thermostat scheduling pilot.
Select Yes if you recommend a deeper audit or metering before committing.
