Use this form to capture a clear research question, hypothesis, required data, expected business impact, pilot ideas, risks, and a recommended next step. The form collects structured answers so teams can compare opportunities consistently and decide whether to fund, pilot, or defer. Describe the precise question you want this research to answer. Avoid broad topics — state what decision this research will influence.
What do you expect to find? A short, testable statement helps design a pilot or experiment.
What business problem would this research help solve? Example: reduce food waste, improve labor scheduling accuracy, increase guest retention.
List the data you will need and where it comes from (POS, inventory, sensors, guest feedback, supplier data, etc.). Note if access is already available.
If not, indicate what is missing and how hard it is to obtain.
Describe a pragmatic pilot that would test the hypothesis in a location, shift, or subset of guests. Include a short outline of activities.
Specify 2–4 measurable KPIs (e.g., % waste reduction, minutes saved per shift, revenue lift, NPS change).
Choose the best estimate for time-to-insight.
Rough order of magnitude cost to run the research/pilot (numbers only). Use the currency your organization uses.
Who will drive this research and be accountable for next steps? Include name and role or team.
Other teams, roles, or external partners who should be involved.
Rate the potential positive impact if the hypothesis is proven (1 = minimal, 10 = transformational). Consider financial, operational, and guest-experience effects.
