Operational-to-BI Integration Checklist (practical verification)

Use this checklist before connecting plant data into your BI environment or before deploying analytic alerts into operations. Each item should have an owner and a date.

  1. Decision & scope
    • Target decision is clearly defined and measurable.
    • Expected operator action or playbook is documented.
  2. Signals & context
    • Minimal set of signals identified (tag names, descriptions, sources).
    • Context tags (run state, recipe, shift) included with the stream.
  3. Ownership & governance
    • Data owners for each signal assigned and contactable.
    • Change control process for tag definitions and transformations exists.
  4. Security & access
    • Access route uses approved bridge/gateway; no direct ad-hoc PLC queries.
    • Network segmentation and least-privilege access validated.
  5. Quality checks
    • Baseline data completeness and expected ranges recorded.
    • Missing-data and spike detection rules implemented and routed to an owner.
  6. Transformations & KPI mapping
    • Transformations from signals to KPI formula are documented and reproducible.
    • Refresh cadence and acceptable latency for the KPI are agreed upon.
  7. Human-in-the-loop design
    • Alerts include supporting evidence and suggested actions, not just a score.
    • Operators and supervisors reviewed notification format and cadence.
  8. Monitoring & feedback
    • Pipeline metrics are tracked (latency, availability, exception rates).
    • Regular feedback loop with operations is scheduled (huddle, review cadence).

Notes: Keep this checklist lightweight—use it to surface the biggest risks and close them before wider rollout.
